What Is a Computer?

Main Parts of a Computer.

1. Central Processing Unit (CPU)

Often called the "brain" of the computer, the CPU handles all the instructions and calculations. The speed and power of your CPU determine how quickly your computer can perform tasks.

The motherboard is the main circuit board that connects all parts of the computer together. It allows the CPU, RAM, storage, and other components to communicate.










3. Random Access Memory (RAM)

RAM is the computer’s short‑term memory. It stores data that your system is currently using. More RAM means your computer can run more apps at once without slowing down.






4. Storage (HDD or SSD)

This is where all your files, apps, and system data are stored.

  • HDD (Hard Disk Drive): Cheaper but slower.

  • SSD (Solid State Drive): Faster, smoother, and more reliable.







5. Power Supply Unit (PSU)

The PSU provides electricity to all the components. Without it, nothing would work.









6. Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

The GPU is responsible for rendering images and videos. It is very important for gaming, video editing, animation, and AI-related tasks.




7. Cooling System

Computers get hot when they work. Fans or liquid cooling systems help keep temperatures low to prevent damage.









8. Input Devices









These allow you to interact with the computer.
